Hospitals and clinical practices can be stressful environments for patients, visitors, and employees. Generally they are understaffed, short of beds and lacking in necessary specialists and resources. With this in mind the concept of a GP Super Clinic was created to bring together multi-disciplined health professionals committed to deliver better healthcare, tailored to the needs and priorities of the local community.

One of the major concerns from the beginning of the project was noise control. Tonya Hinde, an interior designer with extensive experience designing for healthcare environments, explains, “Excessive noise can only add to the stress of a patient. Carpet tiles are the obvious solution to keep reverberation noise levels to a minimum.”

In addition to the acoustic protection, carpet tiles were used as a key visual element in creating a sense of calm and ease within the space. The design intent was for the floor to appear “like a landscape which followed the flow of the floor plan,” Tonya says. More specifically she chose a pattern that not only appeared to broaden the space, but was also forgiving on spills and stains.
