Best Practice PVC

Interface is pleased to announce it can now manufacture product in Australia compliant with the Green Building Council of Australia’s ‘Best Practice PVC’ in the Built Environment. The GBCA has removed PVC minimisation provisions and replaced them with points categories where projects used products manufactured with Best Practice PVC.

The key areas of Best Practice PVC by GBCA state that PVC Resin shall only be sourced from suppliers that fulfil all of the manufacturing requirements. Furthermore the manufacturers who use Best Practice PVC in their product must have in place a post consumer collection methodology. At Interface we call this ReEntry™; the world’s first Carpet Tile Recycling program working towards closing the loop on the use of non-renewable raw materials and fuel.

Twelve months ago there were no compliant sources of PVC for carpet tiles, and since then Interface has worked with a variety of global PVC manufacturers to examine ways of improving their environmental performance. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the GBCA methodology in stretching suppliers and manufacturers to deliver environmental outcomes. It also shows the responsiveness of the PVC industry to adopting best practice.

A manufacturer's Declaration is now available for Interface Australia products demonstrating compliance with the Best Practice PVC credit requirements.

Declarations can be provided specifically for your project upon request.
