Zero Waste

Waste Not. Want Not. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate waste, not just reduce it.

InterfaceFLOR aims to eliminate, not just reduce, all forms of waste from its facilities. We define waste as any cost that doesn't produce value to our customers. Not only the traditional forms of waste such as scrap or materials sent to landfills, but also resources, time and energy wasted.

In Australia since 1994, our cumulative savings from waste elimination activities have totalled more than $25 million and waste cost per unit of production has been reduced by 90%.
Our current targets:

  • Reduce material waste.
  • Reduce financial waste.
  • Reduce raw material used in products.

We've spent more than 10 years examining our current sources of waste and creating programs to reduce and ultimately eliminate waste in all areas of our business, from manufacturing to accounting, marketing, sales and installation. Here are some highlights.

Invention of i2™ Product Range

  • Designed by David Oakey using "biomimicry"–the philosophy that the natural world can teach and guide us in designing man-made products and systems.
  • i2 products offer an unequalled combination of functionality and design; they are more flexible and less wasteful.
  • Inspired by nature's unique, diverse patterns, no two tiles are alike.
  • i2's mergeable dyelots mean products always match, so there's no need for attic stock.
  • i2 Non Directional modules work well together no matter how they are installed.

Less Installation Waste

  • Inherently less wasteful than broadloom carpet, InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles install with less than 4% waste, versus up to 13.1% waste for broadloom

Saving Sample Waste

  • InterfaceFLOR will gladly reuse or recycle returned samples.
  • Introduction of colour printed sample technology system that reduces the waste associated with product development and traditional carpet sample requirements.
