We realised more than 10 years ago that the fossil fuels we depend on - oil, coal and natural gas - would not last forever, so we made it our goal to minimise energy consumption in our processes and ultimately, to use only renewable energy such as solar and wind.

Our current targets:

• Reduce energy consumption to its irreducible minimum.
• Increase the use of non-fossil-fuel-derived energy.
• Ultimately to operate our facilities with 100% renewable energy

Since 1994, InterfaceFLOR has reduced its total energy consumption in Australia by 36% per unit of production. Following are some highlights from our journey.

Renewable Energy

• Several InterfaceFLOR facilities worldwide operate with 100% renewable energy  or from the purchase of renewable energy credits.

Plant Expansion

• In 2001, we installed skylights with light diffusers in our West Point, Ga., manufacturing facility, reducing the plant's lighting load by as much as 50% during daylight hours.
• In Australia, we have followed suit, installing skylights and painting the walls white. Saving on lighting energy consumption.
• Several facilities employ photovoltaic cell technology that captures renewable energy from the sun and converts it to useable power for our plant in LaGrange, Ga.

LEED® - CI Platinum Certification

• Our Atlanta, Ga., showroom is the first space in the USA to receive a platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI).
