InterfaceFLOR: Genuine green

At InterfaceFLOR, we are striving to reduce our environmental footprint – reducing waste and energy use, sourcing renewable energy, offsetting the impact of our company travel and the list goes on. Importantly, we are re-designing our products to close the manufacturing loop, reduce the use of non-renewable resources and landfill, as well as introducing programmes to offset environmental impacts to offer genuine green products.

Cool Carpet™
Cool Carpet™ provides the option to specify ‘climate neutral’ floorcoverings with all greenhouse gases (GHG’s) emitted as a result of our product being offset or balanced.

While InterfaceFLOR actively minimises emissions, remaining GHG’s over all phases of our products’ life cycle - raw material acquisition and processing, manufacturing, transportation, end-of-life and even the energy used to vacuum and maintain the product - are offset by the purchase of credits from sources such as Meridian Energy’s Wind Farm in New Zealand. The programme is standard for all InterfaceFLOR products.

GlasBac®RE
InterfaceFLOR is working towards closing the manufacturing loop and reducing the use of non-renewable resources. We are the first company to provide recycled vinyl backing, not only providing equivalent performance to our standard GlasBac® modular carpet, but reducing landfill. GlasBacRE reduces the use of virgin vinyl by 49%*, but importantly it can be recycled again and again. What’s better still is that our standard GlasBac products now becomes the “food” for our manufacturing processes. We are even working on technology that can take all sorts of waste, like milk bottles, and turn it into quality modular carpet backings.

ReEntry®
Our ReEntry program works in partnership to our GlasBacRE backing offer, in diverting product from landfill and recycling used vinyl backed carpet tiles, even taking back competitors product if it is good enough quality. It’s doing the right thing without the hassle.

It has been carefully designed using "biomimicry", the philosophy that the natural world can teach and guide us in designing man-made products and systems – to give a unique benefit we term mergeable dye lots. How is that greener? i2 products offer an unequalled combination of functionality and design; they are more flexible and less wasteful. The mergeable dyelots mean products always match, so there's no need for attic stock. Additionally, i2 Non Directional modules work well together no matter how they are installed.
