A new glue-free carpet installation system offers the potential to significantly improve indoor air quality.

InterfaceFLOR today launched TacTiles, a glue-free system which reduces the environmental impact of carpet installation by up to 90 per cent.

TacTiles, small adhesive squares used to bond modular carpet tiles together without glue, eliminate voluntary organic compound (VOCs) emissions from traditional carpet glues.

“Traditional carpet glues emit VOCs which vaporise and enter the atmosphere, contributing to indoor air pollution, so this new system is an environmental breakthrough,” InterfaceFLOR’s Australian General Manager Clinton Squires said

“As a company we are committed to eliminating any negative impact we may have on the environment by 2020.”

Mr Squires said TacTiles allowed professionals to easily replace or recycle carpet tiles. This flexible ‘floating floor’ system allows designers to change a carpet’s appearance without

damaging the floor beneath. It is suitable for use on delicate floors such as wood, granite and marble, making it the ideal choice for heritage floors.

“We’re expecting a lot of interest in TacTiles from design professionals. As a whole, there is a great commitment by the industry to become more environmentally responsible,” Mr Squires said.

The launch of TacTiles in Australia comes after three years of development and more than 90 test sites throughout North America and Canada.
